In response to U.S. Senator Mike Rounds' recent introduction of legislation to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, the South Dakota Education Association (SDEA) expresses deep concern and strong opposition. If passed, this legislation could have severe and lasting negative effects on South Dakota's schools and students. The following statement can be attributed to SDEA President Loren Paul:

The South Dakota Education Association, representing over 6,000 educators across the state, unequivocally opposes Initiated Measure 28. This measure threatens the very foundation of public education in South Dakota, jeopardizing the future of our students and communities.
