Get to Know the 2027 South Dakota Teacher of the Year and SDEA Teacher of Excellence: Christina Berger
Spending time in her classroom, I quickly saw her greatest strength: engaging students in meaningful ways that make them excited to learn, whether through a mnemonic for the Midwest states or Pumpkin Jack to teach adjectives. Her room is welcoming and designed with intention, from Sirocco, the class bearded dragon, to the “Number Corner.” Most of all, there is real joy in learning. As she says, once you’ve been a 3B kid, you’ll always be a 3B kid.
