SDEA partnered with the South Dakota chapter of IAM FAME, an organization of international Filipino American educators, to host the event. Teachers from Oglala Lakota County (OLC), Bennett County, Eagle Butte, Jones County and Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools took part in volleyball and basketball tournaments.

International teachers are filling a growing number of classroom positions across South Dakota and helping ease the state’s teacher shortage. SDEA is working to support these educators, and the day gave them a chance to connect with colleagues facing similar experiences far from home.

Between games, Freddly Asuer, from the OLC Education Association, gave a presentation on what SDEA is, what it does for educators and why membership matters. Attendees learned how joining SDEA can support them in their classrooms and careers.

SDEA thanks IAM FAME and all the educators who came out for a day of fun and community.
