SDEA -Retired Membership Information

Membership

All retired school employees of South Dakota who meet the active membership requirement of SDEA and NEA may become active members of SDEA-Retired.

Since 1988 all retired membership has been unified, that is a retired member must be a member of the local, SDEA, and NEA. All retired members belong to the same statewide local organization.

The cost for unified annual membership is

SDEA $10 + NEA $15 + Local dues $ 5 = $30

It is also possible to become a member by paying a one time lifetime membership of SDEA $100 + NEA $100 + Local dues $5 = $205

With a lifetime membership, only the local dues of $5 must be paid yearly. 

Retired members qualify for $1,000,000 Educators Employment Liability Insurance when working in a school.

Governance

The executive committee composed of four officers - president, vice president, secretary and treasurer - conducts the business of the organization.
