Ramia Boersma Memorial Scholarship

The South Dakota Education Association/NEA awards scholarships to outstanding students who are planning on entering the teaching profession . The Association may annually award up to three $750 scholarships for each academic year.

James Madison Fellowships

The James Madison Fellowships were created to honor Madison's legacy and Madisonian principles by providing support for graduate study that focuses on the Constitution-its history and contemporary relevance to the practices and policies of democratic government. The benefits of the fellowship program are manifold and lasting. Fellowship recipients have a unique opportunity to strengthen their research, writing, and analytical skills. In the process they form professional ties that can significantly influence their career aspirations. Fellows gain a deeper understanding of the principles of constitutional government which they in turn transmit to their students. In this way the James Madison Fellowships ensure that the spirit and practical wisdom of the Constitution will guide the actions of future generations of American citizens.

Award for Teaching Excellence

The NEA Foundation Awards for Teaching Excellence recognize, reward, and promote excellence in teaching and advocacy for the profession. They also honor public education and the dedicated members of the NEA. The NEA Foundation and the National Education Association jointly present the awards with support from NEA Member Benefits, the Horace Mann Companies, and the Pearson Foundation.

SDEA/NEA Innovation Grants

The SDEA/NEA Educational Foundation Program provides grants up to $1,000.00 (one thousand dollars) to members of the association in support of innovative educational and student-oriented projects. The foundation program funds new member-led projects. The SDEA/NEA Educational Foundation gives preference to proposals that address student achievement, cultural diversity issues, include community partnerships, and can be duplicated by others.

Every year, exemplary educators are honored with induction into the Honored Women Educators of South Dakota during their annual meeting held in Mitchell.

SDEA/NEA Friend of Education Award

The Friend of Education Award is to honor a person or organization that has made a significant contribution on a statewide basis toward achieving a quality public education for all students.
The Boys and Girls Club of the Yankton Sioux is the 2009 award recipient.

SDEA/NEA Human and Civil Rights Award

The Human and Civil Rights Award is to honor an individual, student, or organization for their work in promoting human and civil rights. The Benedictine Multicultural Center/Sister Ramona Fallon is the 2009 award recipient.  See story here.
