 Pitching in at Plankinton
SDEA-SP Outreach Program 2001

The student program members got down and dirty helping the Plankinton School District rebuild, remodel, and redecorate Saturday, March 31, 2001.  The Plankinton school was destroyed by a propane explosion in November 2000, and classes were forced to relocate in modular homes provided by the state.  SDEA student program members spent the day moving playground equipment, insulating the new gym, building playground fences, moving equipment, constructing walkways, laminating bulletin board material, building basketball and soccer ball boxes, and many other jobs arranged for them by the Plankinton administration.  About 120 program members from South and North Dakota Universities participated, making an enormous impact on a grateful, deserving community.

About 120 student program members spent Saturday March 31 working at Plankinton, SD.

The students work on a fence to enclose the new playground.

Digging up playground equipment at the old school and moving it to the new school was part of the work.

Students built a walkway from the classroom buildings to the new gymnasium.

Students insulate the new gym.

Each campus donated two or more bookshelves.
