NCOA Advocacy Pays Off: Congress Adds Seniors with Limited Means to
Stimulus Package
NCOA played an important role in ensuring that Congress passed a
bipartisan stimulus package that includes payments to 20 million
seniors who rely primarily on Social Security, as well as 250,000
disabled veterans.
NCOA worked closely with other senior groups in the Leadership
Council of Aging Organizations, which NCOA chairs, and public policy
staff lobbied key senators. In addition, more than 900 e-mails were
sent through NCOA's advocacy Web site, and nearly 1,000 phone calls
were made on the toll-free number made available by NCOA's partner
the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
Thanks to everyone who took part in this effort—you spoke and
Congress listened! Seniors with limited means will receive payments
of $300 for individuals and $600 for couples.
