$1 million in Liability Protection: A $1 million liability policy is the cornerstone of SDEA's professional protection plan. This coverage is automatic with membership and protects members if a lawsuit is filed against them.

Attorney Referral Program: When members need legal service in personal matters, this program provides two, free 30-minute consultation sessions each year with a participating attorney and a 30 percent reduction of the participating attorney's normal fee for work in five 'core" areas:

The Crystal Apple Award

  • Association members together with local Horace Mann representatives set the criteria for winning the award, such as dedication, assertiveness, enthusiasm and use of creative and innovative teaching techniques.  Also can be given for service anniversaries.
     

Outstanding School Employee Program

  • Acknowledges a school employee who has impacted students' lives.  The students nominate a special employee, and Horace Mann makes sure that employee is recognized.
     

Awards for Teaching Excellence

  • Horace Mann has partnered with the NEA Foundation to promote and reward excellence in teaching and advocacy of education.  Annually, Horace Mann proudly honors each of the five educator finalists with a $10,000 award.

Horace Mann/Abraham Lincoln Fellowship Program

  • Horace Mann has partnered with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum to award 50 teachers a fellowship to study the life and legacy of our nation's 16th President.
     

Horace Mann Scholarship Program

  • One way educators stay sharp is by continuing their education in post-graduate studies -- and Horace Mann can help.  Each year Horace Mann provides scholarships totaling $30,000 for tuition, fees and other educational expenses.
     

Reach Every Child
