SDEA Scholarship for Minorities guidelines

Background and Purpose

The South Dakota Education Association/NEA is proud to announce the availability of scholarships to promising ethnic minority students who are seeking degrees in either the teaching field or school counseling.  The intent of these scholarships is to provide financial support to students who are doing their student teaching or school counseling internship.

AWARDS

Depending on financial need, the Association may award between $1,500-$2,250 per scholarship recipient.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Applicant must::

  • Be a minority undergraduate/graduate student in good standing.
  • Be enrolled in a South Dakota institution of higher education.
  • Be enrolled in a teacher/school counselor preparation program 
  • Be a student teacher or school counselor intern  
  • Be a SDEA/NEA Student member (Can join the year they receive the scholarship.)

SUPPORTING MATERIALS

To be considered, the following supporting materials must be included with your scholarship application:

 

  • A copy of the applicant's college transcript.
  • A resume outlining education, achievements and awards, activities (school, community, church) and work experience.
  • Letters of recommendation from at least two college instructors.
  • A 300-500 word essay on the strengths and skills the applicant will bring to the field of education.
  • Verification of student teaching or school counseling internship

 

 

dEADLINE:

 

Completed applications and attachments must be submitted by April 15, 2008.

This is a postmark deadline.
